The O.C. - The Complete Third Season Review

The third season of The O.C. was a huge disappointment after the wildly successful first season and the pretty good second season. This year, the kids are seniors and college is on the horizon. Ryan romances a dull newcomer, acts like he's 40 years old, and has way too little screen time. Marissa, once the queen of Harbor School, goes to public school with some unsavory new friends. Summer and Seth spend most of their time bickering, as do Sandy and Kirsten. Only spunky Julie Cooper stays true to her character as she merrily copes with new-found poverty and an unexpected new love.

What made the show great in the beginning was seeing Ryan adjust to the Newpsies and the on-again, off-again romances of the "Core Four" and their parents. Sadly, this season that all took a back seat to tedious guest-star story arcs featuring unlikable and off-putting characters.

Even with all its shortcomings, though, this season is a must for OC fans and it does end in a surprisingly exciting finale. 3.5 stars.

The O.C. - The Complete Third Season Feature

The O.C. - The Complete Third Season Overview

Senior year. Prom. Graduation. College visits. Old friends. New problems. And plenty of Korean popstars. Ryan's savior complex becomes a recipe for disaster. Seth and Summer's relationship hits the rocks thanks to Seth's compulsion to edit the truth. As Kirsten attempts to put her life back together, Sandy assumes leadership of the Newport Group and finds himself the heir-apparent to Caleb Nichol's legacy of scandal. Marissa spirals out of control after little sis Kaitlin - a Julie Cooper in the making - returns home to stir the pot. And speaking of Julie Cooper, she's cast out of her Palace - into the slums of the OC.

DVD Features:
Music Video:Making of The Subways music video
Featurette:What's In a Name?
Featurette:From Script to Screen - The Party Favor

Other:Pass The Remote - Scene surfing Commentary.

The O.C. - The Complete Third Season Specifications

Welcome to the dark side. At the end of The O.C.'s second season, Marissa (Mischa Barton) shoots the troubled Trey to stop him from strangling his brother, Ryan (Ben McKenzie). She saves her boyfriend's life, but it leads to her expulsion from Harbor High--just as she was to begin her senior year. Meanwhile, Ryan's guardian, Kirsten (Kelly Rowan), is doing time in rehab. It won't be easy for her to stay dry with two-faced resident Charlotte (Jeri Ryan, Shark) making every attempt to take advantage of her vulnerability. Ever the hothead, Ryan recovers in time to punch out the mean new dean (Eric Mabius, Ugly Betty), who expels him next. So, Kirsten's husband, Sandy (Peter Gallagher), hires a tutor, while Marissa attends public school where she falls in with the surfing crowd, including the besotted Johnny (Ryan Donowho). Arguably, Marissa's newly widowed mother, Julie (Melinda Clarke), is hit hardest when she finds that husband Caleb (Kirsten's father) didn't leave behind as much money as expected. Then the mansion is repossessed, and wild child Kaitlin (Willa Holland) returns from boarding school. And that's just the beginning of Julie's woes.

By the finale, two of these people will be gone forever, but it wouldn't be The O.C. if there weren't some bright spots along the way. College-bound couple Seth (Adam Brody) and Summer (Rachel Bilson) are still full of quips, the Tracy Flick-like Taylor (Autumn Reeser), who plays a bigger role in the next season, is a welcome addition, and the soundtrack is jam-packed with material from the likes of MIA, Gang of Four, Sufjan Stevens, Lady Sovereign, and the Subways, who appear in "The Anger Management." Sadly, this would be the last full season of The O.C. as only 16 episodes were produced for the fourth and final year. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Johnny Tremain Review

My 7th grade reading students had read parts of this book (not in its entirety since time was running out at the end of school). With a short amount of time left, I showed the movie to my classes. Even though, as most movies, it was not faithful to the book, they were truly interested in it.

Johnny Tremain Feature

Johnny Tremain Overview

Return to the days that sparked the American Revolution, now on Disney DVD for the first time! Meet young Johnny Tremain, a silversmith's apprentice with dreams of learning the trade and making his own way. When a terrible injury ends his hopes, he joins the emerging Sons Of Liberty. The Redcoats are coming as you journey back to the Boston Tea Party, the midnight ride of Paul Revere, and Lexington Green, where tyranny was vanquished by an idea -- freedom for all! Based on the classic novel by Esther Forbes, you won't want to miss one historic moment of Disney's classic adventure and liberty's rising light.

Johnny Tremain Specifications

Looking for a way to make the American Revolution come alive for your child? Based on Esther Forbes's book of the same name, Johnny Tremain takes place in Boston from July 1773 through April 1775, and tells the story of a young apprentice silversmith drawn into a fight for human rights. When an accident cripples Johnny Tremain's hand and ends his hopes of becoming a great silversmith, Tremain finds himself without work and accused of a crime he did not commit. Sons of Liberty members Paul Revere and Josiah Quincy are outraged by the circumstantial case against Tremain, agree to represent him free of charge, and win his acquittal in court. Through association with his new friends, Tremain begins to better understand the current political climate, and eventually joins them in the battle for freedom. Tremain's involvement in the emptying of British tea into Boston Harbor, the arrival of the Redcoats in Boston, and the beginnings of the American Revolution at Concord is powerful and moving. The costuming is splendid, the music patriotic, and the dialogue well crafted. The film stars Hal Stalmaster as Johnny Tremain, costars Luana Patten and Jeff York, and runs 80 minutes. This classic Disney film is wonderful entertainment and a fairly faithful representation of a crucial period in American history. (Ages 8 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Baraka [Blu-ray] Review

This video impressed me so much that after viewing it I thought about it for about a year and then bought it. There is no plot, per se, but it is amazing and keeps your attention. It takes you around the world, viewing the world from new perspectives, like getting a gift every few minutes. Watch it, you will not be sorry.

Baraka [Blu-ray] Feature

These are the wonders of a world without words, viewed through man and nature s own prisms of symmetry, savagery, harmony and chaos.

BARAKA produced by Mark Magidson and directed and photographed by Ron Fricke, award-winning cinematographer of KOYAANISQATSI and creators of the IMAX® sensation CHRONOS has now been fully restored from its original camera negative via state-of-the-art 8K UltraDigital mastering to create the most visually stunning Blu-ray ever made.

INCLUDES OVER 80 MINUTES OF ALL NEW BONUS FEATURES:
Baraka: A Closer Look
Baraka: Restoration

Baraka [Blu-ray] Specifications

The word Baraka means "blessing" in several languages; watching this film, the viewer is blessed with a dazzling barrage of images that transcend language. Filmed in 24 countries and set to an ever-changing global soundtrack, the movie draws some surprising connections between various peoples and the spaces they inhabit, whether that space is a lonely mountaintop or a crowded cigarette factory. Some of these attempts at connection are more successful than others: for instance, an early sequence segues between the daily devotions of Tibetan monks, Orthodox Jews, and whirling dervishes, finding more similarity among these rituals than one might expect. And there are other amazing moments, as when sped-up footage of a busy Hong Kong intersection reveals a beautiful symmetry to urban life that could only be appreciated from the perspective of film. The lack of context is occasionally frustrating--not knowing where a section was filmed, or the meaning of the ritual taking place--and some of the transitions are puzzling. However, the DVD includes a short behind-the-scenes featurette in which cinematographer Ron Fricke (Koyaanisqatsi) explains that the effect was intentional: "It's not where you are that's important, it's what's there." And what's here, in Baraka, is a whole world summed up in 104 minutes. --Larisa Lomacky Moore

Let's face it, if you're like most boys at the age of 30 are, you are looking for a great anti-wrinkle cream for men. Keep looking for himself as early as possible is not just for women more. In this article I will get around the truth when it comes choosing the right cream men wrinkles.

First I got the message some good ... and bad news. The good news is there are some excellent anti-wrinkle cream for men available, does not cost an arm and a leg. The trouble is that there is some work to reduce fine lines, ie, sagging skin and dark circles that are on show. You also need several men wrinkle cream products to the job done.

Anyone who tells you that there not be a cure all products it is for you now. Depending on how far you want to take it, you could have up to 5 different products to begin to get your skin under control. Here are some products that youYou can examine your skin to look and feel to get good.

Consider starting with a gel for the eye area. The skin around the eyes is the first launch shows fine lines and wrinkles. Although technically not an anti-wrinkle cream for men, a gel can be much more effective than a cream and yes, there are special gels for men. Search for products, babassu oil, which is a natural softener that softens skin around the eyes, without containing too much oil. They would also like to see natural vitaminE and active Manuka honey, which is also new life into the skin around the eyes.

The next men's wrinkle cream product that you should get to know, is a deep moisturizing mask. This will help your skin moist at the face and neck, and makes it firmer and softer. Tip, a good mask is actually in the skin after 20 minutes, or to absorb Sun No need to go around the house with the green skin. You can sleep with him. You want to find a product with as many natural ingredientsas possible, such as avocado and macadamia oils and active Manuka honey from New Zealand.

The products mentioned here is the naked truth when it comes to anti-wrinkle cream for men. There is no one product to correct any problems when it comes to wrinkles in the skin. My last advice is sure that in the selection of an anti-wrinkle cream for men that it is for a man and a woman. The skin needs for men and women are different. So there you have it. Choosing wiselywill pay off in the fight against wrinkles.

"Sound, sound, sound, went the trolley ... ding, ding, ding went the bell ..."

The words of the old familiar song bring back memories to me, during the war in 1940 in Yonkers, NY - known by its natives in those days as "a city of gracious living." This city, more hilly as the "City by the Bay," boasted streetcars until the early 50s, when their bus was held. These were the "good old days", despite the ravages of war, the blackouts, the rationing of sugar and petrol, andthe black-favorites telegrams sometimes I helped my brother, who died to deliver by bicycle to the fallen GI's kin.

Those were the days of soft music, good movies, fresh-from-the-farm food - unadulterated by crossing (tomatoes), whipped cream (butter), decaffeination and freeze-drying (coffee), rolling (Turkey), injection of water (ham) and the treatment of chemical additives (bread) - and for most of us that we were only experiencing high when the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Yankees or the Giants managedto the World Series.

But back to the car! Many of us, with the iron monsters they look now grown not only nostalgic, as we do, but also as an excellent form of transport. In summer, the cars were often aired openly, operated on a full, easy to plan and took it almost anywhere you wanted to go into the city from the subway in the Bronx to the city lines of Hastings-on-Hudson and Mount Vernon .

And they were funny, as children we often rode it all overCity if it does not do much else. It kept us out of trouble more than once.

We think the car quite a lot these days - just about every time we sit patiently behind another car on Route 7, the Parkway or the turnpike. And more often lately, many of the side streets in the province. Here, in the hour, it's an adventure trying to train in and out of the driveway.

In fact, we were preaching the benefits of public transport for years, but not onlyBuses. Logically, one should specify the transport to the goal or destination, desired fit. A train or plane fits the bill for most long trips, private cars, limousines, taxis, buses, bicycles, suspended or even golf carts do the trick in other situations.

With today's limited-access "parking areas (the Merritt, I-95)," it has not become clear, the car is not the panacea it once was? In the face of the daily traffic is stagnating, you can really see the naked king rollTurnpike every morning without looking that he has no clothes?

Sherlock Holmes Review

This might not be the best thing to watch if you have a preconceived idea of Holmes and Watson from the books or the classic "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" (1939) with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. You do not want to besmirch the image.

Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) in this presentation is just as observant as usual but is better informed of different disciplines that the original. He uses wily disguises and beautiful women to accomplish his goal of detecting and foiling the cunning bad guys. This looks like the pilot for a series or at least the beginning of a film series.

Dr. Watson (Jude Law) is more of second Holms but a different set of bad habits. He saves Holmes' bacon several times. However, Watson wants to go his own way and settle down with his newfound love Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams.)

This looks like the pilot for a series or at least the beginning of a film series. Holmes is bantering with the insidious Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong) who has recently risen from the dead and is determined to create a new world order. Little does he know that they are all pawns in a larger scheme by "you know who." Oh, all right I will say it Professor Moriarty.

This looks like the pilot for a series or at least the beginning of a film series.

Keep watching as the final credits role by. It is nice to see that they tie the names of the character and the actors together with pictures of the characters. I cannot stand disembodies names scrolling by. The is a picture of a naked man, handcuffed to the bead and the caption "Costumes Designer Jenny Beavan"

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes Feature

Sherlock Holmes Overview

The hangman did his job, Dr. Watson declared the condemned man dead...yet Lord Blackwood has emerged from the tomb to assert his deadly will over 1890 London. Is he in league with the forces of hell itself? Is the whole Empire in peril? It's a mystery macabre--and only Sherlock Holmes can master it.

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law put memorable imprints on Holmes and Watson in this bold new reimagining that makes the legendary sleuth a daring man of action as well as a peerless man of intellect. Baffling clues, astonishing Holmesian deductions, nimble repartee, catch-your-breath scenes of one slam thing after another--director Guy Ritchie helms the excitement reintroducing the great detective to the world. Meet the new Sherlock Holmes!

Sherlock Holmes Specifications

Guy Ritchie (Snatch, RocknRolla) attempts to reinvent one of the world's most iconic literary figures as an action hero in this brawny, visually arresting period adventure. Robert Downey Jr. is an intriguing choice for the Great Detective, and if he occasionally murmurs his lines a pitch or two out of hearing range, his trademark bristling energy and off-kilter humor do much to sell Ritchie's notion of Holmes. Jude Law is equally well-equipped as a more active Dr. Watson--he's closer to Robert Duvall's vigorous portrayal in The Seven Per-Cent Solution than to Nigel Bruce--and together, they make for an engaging team. Too bad the plot they're thrust into is such a mess--a bustling and disorganized flurry of martial arts, black magic, and overwhelming set pieces centered around Mark Strong's Crowley-esque cult leader (no Professor Moriarty, he), who returns from the grave to exact revenge. Downey and Law's amped-up Holmes and Watson are built for the challenge of riding this roller coaster with the audience; however, Rachel McAdams as Holmes's love interest, Irene Adler (here a markedly different character than the one in Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Scandal in Bohemia"), and Kelly Reilly as Mary Morstan, the future Mrs. Watson, are cast to the wind in the wake of Ritchie's hurricane pace. One can imagine this not sitting well with ardent Sherlockians; all others may find this Sherlock Holmes marvelous if calorie-free popcorn entertainment, with the CGI rendering of Victorian-era London particularly appealing eye candy. --Paul Gaita

Enchanted April Review

I had a friend who kept nagging me to watch this movie. I was assured that I would love it. Well, I started to watch it and the first couple of minutes seemed rather dull to me -- little did I know that this movie would turn out to be one of my alltime favorites.

I especially like such movies as "Tea With Mussolini", "Avalon" and "Room With a View". And, as much as I liked those, I like this one a hundred times more! Why? I'm not actually sure of the exact reason. I tend to think it appeals to a certain type of person.

I can say the actors are absolutely excellent, the scenery is beautiful, but I suppose it is the engaging storyline (that many women especially can relate to) that makes it particularly attractive to me. Also, the pace of the movie is appealing. That is an unusual reason I suppose, but the timing of the scenes is simply perfect.

Everyone who was involved with the project of making this movie should feel very proud of such a fine product (without hesitation I gave it five stars). I suppose the person who deserves the most praise would have to be the author of the book the movie was based on. In any case, I LOVE it, and many thanks to everyone who participated in the making of this fine movie.

Enchanted April Feature

Enchanted April Overview

Two proper Englishwomen, determined to get away from their drab lives and inattentive husbands, find paradise among the serene countryside of the Italian Rivera in this enchanting adventure staring Josie Lawrence and Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire).
When the pair rents a magnificent villa for a month, they share expenses with two unlikely companions an austere widow and a bored socialite. At first, personalities clash, but the hideaway holds a special magic that soon sparks friendships and reminds the women of ways to live and love that have long eluded them. Stellar performances and breathtaking scenery make the Academy Award-nominated Enchanted April (1992: Best Supporting Actress, Joan Plowright; Best Costume Design; Best Adapted Screenplay) a captivating delight for everyone who's ever dreamed of taking the perfect holiday.

Enchanted April Specifications

This lovely, 1991 adaptation of Elizabeth Von Arnim's novel has a superb cast and a tone so mellow you can feel your pulse get slower. Josie Lawrence and Miranda Richardson play a pair of unhappily married women who rent an Italian villa for a month, sharing the rent with a crusty Englishwoman (Joan Plowright) and a lonely aristocrat (Polly Walker). Sun, rest, sinking into the green grass for long naps--they all have a soulful effect on the quartet, and then on the men in their lives who make a surprise visit. Mike Newell (Into the West) directs with seeming effortlessness, and it is impossible not to be swayed by the promise of restoration for these burdened characters--or for anyone alive. Wonderful performances all around, including a particularly sensitive one by Alfred Molina and a very funny one by Jim Broadbent. --Tom Keogh

May I begin by saying that "the Luna brothers are" very happy to have such a cool last name. If they were werewolves or astronomer or astronaut, it would be even more perfect. I feel stupid that I tie without a sly way, they to have in her profession as a comic creator. (Let me know if you all think.)

Girls: Design is an extraordinary graphic novel. I will try to summarize the main plot in one sentence, here it goes:

Zombies attack a small town, and theytry to kill them all.

Wait, that's not right ... Here, let me try again:

Naked Chicks zombies invade a small town, and they try to kill each of all women.

My first impression of the story was as follows: "Well this is a way to sell comic books." But when I began to show through reading the power and value of history. The story drips with human emotions, as some would want to kill these women and others to protect them, and all are usually confused by their motives. One of thethe cooling panels throughout the comic is just five identical women hatch from the eggs in the bathroom of the protagonist. Yeah, its as weird as it sounds. Fear and anxiety in my stool as a strange lady was naked many naked ladies with identical strange lustful desires and motives questionable. There are a few more trades after this, I do not know all the details, but I have a few guesses, come what will.

1) The chicks goto seduce tons of the village men

2) they go to lay eggs tons

3) The eggs will hatch more psychotic women

4) The psycho women will kill all the female villagers

It is a strange on a "zombie" model comic take, because in the zombie comics, no one wants to bite. But in this comic, there are many men who want to get laid. Do not buy this comic, if you want some tits, its not so (it is actually very tastefully) to see, and arethey only mean sexual immorality happens to you, do not go to any of the graphics to be seen. (PERVs). But I probably would not have to work this, because you are probably too many strange simple to draw attention from the cover and the title.

I invite all the men out there to make a choice: Your wife / mother / sister / daughter or a hot alien chick? You decide.

Star Trek: The Original Series - Season 1 [Blu-ray] Review

This DVD contains two versions of the Star Trek pilot "The Cage" and the final original series episode "Turnabout Intruder". There is a full color version of "The Cage" and another which has portions in black and white and color. "The Cage" stars Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Christopher Pike, who commands the Enterprise on a mission to a forbidden planet (Talos IV) where illusions are experienced as reality. Parts of this episode were used in the later two part voyage "The Menagerie", but it is really interesting to see the pilot in its original form. It was a really great beginning for Star Trek with a thoughtful, intriguing story, which has been loved and admired by many even though a major television network once rejected it. "Turnabout Intruder" was the last episode of the the original series, and while not one of the best stories, it is interesting if not a little strange to see William Shatner play the part of a woman. Dr. Janice Lester, who envies Kirk, transfers herself into his body and Kirk into hers. An interesting idea but there isn't much beyond the character transfer. It is well worth owning this DVD since there are over two hours on it with good sound and picture quality. It makes a fine addition to any Star Trek fan's collection.

Star Trek: The Original Series - Season 1 [Blu-ray] Feature

Star Trek: The Original Series - Season 1 [Blu-ray] Overview

Space. The Final Frontier. The U.S.S. Enterprise embarks on a five year mission to explore the galaxy. The Enterprise is under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. The First Officer is Mr. Spock, from the planet Vulcan. The Chief Medical Officer is Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy. With a determined crew, the Enterprise encounters Klingons, Romulans, time paradoxes, tribbles and genetic supermen lead by Khan Noonian Singh. Their mission is to explore strange new worlds, to seek new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Star Trek: The Original Series - Season 1 [Blu-ray] Specifications

In 1966, Star Trek set out to boldly go where no series had gone before, beginning a three-year mission that led to a franchise that would last decades. Here at last is the first season of the original series all in one box, 29 episodes in their original broadcast order. That means starting with "The Man Trap," and soon followed by "Where No Man Has Gone Before," the second pilot filmed and the first one starring William Shatner as Captain Kirk. The many highlight episodes include "Balance of Terror" and "Errand of Mercy" (introducing, respectively, the Romulans and the Klingons), the two-part "The Menagerie" (which recycled footage from the original pilot, "The Cage," which featured Christopher Pike as the captain of the Enterprise and is not included in this set), "Space Seed" (introducing Ricardo Montalban's Khan character), and "The City of the Edge of Forever" (written by sci-fi giant Harlan Ellison and considered by many the best-ever episode of the series).

The first-season DVD set is supplemented by 80 minutes of featurettes incorporating 2003-04 interviews with Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, other cast members, and producers, and some 1988 footage of Gene Roddenberry. The longest (24 minutes) featurette, "The Birth of a Timeless Legacy," examines the two pilot episodes and the development of the crew. Slightly shorter are "To Boldly Go... Season One," which highlights key episodes, and "Sci-Fi Visionaries," which discusses the series' great science fiction writers (most famously in "The City of the Edge of Forever"). Shatner shows off his love of horses in "Life Beyond Trek," and, more interestingly, Nimoy debunks various rumors in "Reflections of Spock." As they've done for many of the feature-film special editions, Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda provide a pop-up text commentary on four of the episodes filled with history, trivia, and dry wit. It's the first commentary of any kind for a Star Trek TV show, but an audio commentary is still overdue. The technical specs are mostly the same as other Trek TV series--Dolby 5.1, English subtitles--but with the welcome addition of the episode trailers. The plastic case is an attempt to replicate some of the fun packaging of the series' European DVD releases, but it's a bit clunky, and the paper sleeve around the disc case seems awkward and crude. Still, the set is a vast improvement both in terms of shelf space and bonus features compared to the old two-episode discs, which were released before full-season boxed sets became the model for television DVDs. --David Horiuchi

Viniyoga Therapy for the Low Back, Sacrum & Hips with Gary Kraftsow Review

Once regarded as simply an Eastern discipline, yoga is now a familiar part of the health and fitness scene. A recent national survey has found that nearly 16 million Americans currently practice yoga. Although many people are doing yoga to ease stress and improve their health, a growing number have specific medical goals in mind, such as getting rid of their back pain. But does it really work?

Well, according to a 2009 study in the journal Spine, yoga therapy CAN reduce pain and functional impairment in people with chronic low back pain. This condition can be difficult to treat, and not surprisingly, having a bad back is one of the most commonly reported reasons people are turning to alternative and complementary therapies like yoga.

With great videos like Viniyoga Therapy with Gary Kraftsow DVD 2-Pack [[ASIN:B000U0C9UE Viniyoga Therapy for the Low Back, Sacrum & Hips with Gary Kraftsow, you don't have to be enrolled in a study, or drag yourself to a class to get all the pain-relieving benefits of yoga. Just pop the DVD in, and you'll find the video divided up into some of these sections, such as...

-Presentation on Understanding Back Pain and the application of yoga therapy.
-Technique Workshop on how to safely perform postures and movements.
-Focused practice for Low Back and Sacrum Therapy.
-Focused practice for Hip Therapy.
-Integrated practice for sustained low back Strength and Stability.

Its set up pretty well. In a nutshell, they cover some facts about back pain, and then introduce you to the theory of yoga and some of the postures. Then, you can pick which area you want to focus on (like the low back), and you'll be slowly guided through a series of poses that will help get you stretched out and strengthened up. If you're worried about getting injured or hurt, don't be. All the poses are pretty gentle, and the stretches can be as mild as you want them to be. And the music and verbal instructions are quite soothing.

So if you think you'd like to try yoga to take a bite out of your back pain, this would be a good choice. If yoga's not your thing, books like Treat Your Own Spinal Stenosis offer some pretty good exercises too.

Witchblade: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] Review

"When I saw the pictures and the explanation of the story, I thought it was a coarser, scarier and darker anime. But once we started, I realized it had less violence and more heart." - Mie Sonozaki

-----

Before anything else, you need to understand the following: Witchblade is, first and foremost, a character-driven drama, rather than an action series. It has some fighting, yes, but the vast majority of the episodes are spent focusing on character development. Everything else comes a distant second. At first the suggestion is that it's going to be a The Devil Lady, 'monster of the week' type, but that isn't the case.

Whoever decided to market Witchblade as a violent, fan-service heavy title wasn't too bright. Likewise, the person who came up with the idea of taking the title of a popular American comic and then creating an entirely different story, with an all-new cast, didn't make the wisest of moves. By attempting to pass-off a slow-paced, heartfelt and very human drama as a generic action title with added boobs, all Gonzo achieved was getting the wrong type of viewers; pushing away the types who would appreciate a family drama about a mother loving her daughter with all her heart and being willing to do anything for her.

Judging the series based on the revealing Witchblade forms and boob sizes, it's hard not to expect an utterly tasteless anime. But you know what? Sex only occurs ONCE during the entire series, and NOTHING gets shown--the two involved kiss and then it's the morning after. That pretty much sums Witchblade up: there's a lot of cleavage but, that aside, Witchblade is surprisingly tasteful. In truth, there isn't even a huge amount of action once series gets past the introduction period.

:: Story :: 6/10

Six years prior to the start of Witchblade, Tokyo had been left devastated by a catastrophic earthquake. Two people were found alive at the ground zero of the quake: a 17-year-old woman (later named Masane; her having lost all of her pre-disaster memories) and a baby (Rihoko). Only the maternity diary held by the woman pointed towards them being related...

Once the series gets going, the two are heading back to Tokyo on the run; desperate to stay together and not be separated by the child welfare organization (created after the quake, to 'help' children). As jobless Masane struggles to keep Rihoko, she encounters the 'monster' responsible for a string of nasty murders, and that's when what had been sleeping within her for six years awakens--the power of the 'Witchblade'; something that has existed since the beginning of time, selecting its (female) hosts and forcing its hosts to give into their lust and destructive urges. Masane then gets caught between two organizations who seek the Witchblade, ending up working for one (Douji: a major weapons supplier) to support her life with Rihoko and hunted by the other (NSWF: in charge of the child welfare organization and with links to genetic research).

I'll be honest here: the story of Witchblade is full of anime silliness, ranging from fat men disguised as killer microwaves, genetic experiments, and women who use 'Cloneblades'--lesser, copied versions of the ever mysterious Witchblade. It's never explained why the weapons Masane hunts target random females, or why the Witchblade only selects women as 'hosts'... or what the Witchblade actually is. And I couldn't help but see most of the twists coming in advance; the writers actually intentionally spelling out how the series would end in order to impact on the viewers' feelings progressively rather than shock them.

While it does have a B-movie sort of entertainment factor in its favour, if I were to score Witchblade based only on its story, it wouldn't be very flattering... But this is where the negative ends because, like I've already pointed out at the start, the characters are where it's at. The story is no more than a means to an end; the backdrop for lots of excellent drama.

:: Characterization :: 9.5/10

Masane (nicknamed 'Melonie' because of her boob size!), the lead of the story, has nothing going for her apart from her six-year-old daughter, Rihoko. She isn't incredibly sharp, has no skills of note and, really, only has her love for her daughter. The child welfare organization try to separate them; Masane's ability to transform into a scantily-clad, sexulized version of herself (thanks to the mysterious Witchblade attached to her wrist) puts her in danger and powerful corporations involve her in their troubles, but, no matter what stands in her way, she fights to protect and give a better life to the one she loves the most.

Loud, simple-minded, direct type of characters tend to be hard to like and easy to hate, but Masane is very endearing. There are many simple things that made her into a likable character, such as when she went into a blind panic after learning that her daughter had been hurt; Masane ending up running out of her apartment barefoot. She's often called a primate by her 'boss', Takayama, because of how she acts without thinking and says what's on her mind, but that's what's so lovable about her: her honesty, maternal instincts and selflessness. It's little surprise that she eventually wins over even Takayama with her natural personality as the series progresses - she's just impossible to not like and respect.

The supporting cast backing up Masane aren't too shabby, either. Rihoko basically 'mothers' her own mother by shopping, cooking and caring for the more absent-minded Masane, and her being so mature at such a young age makes her have instant likability. Takayama plays the role of Masane's stern and somewhat awkward middle-aged boss, giving her orders to hunt down rogue 'weapons' for money, and it's his banter with her that provides much of the comic relief--the two later also becoming much closer; the writers doing a wonderful job of humanizing him and showing his softer, caring side as the series progresses. The rest of the cast are less developed and involved than the main three but all play important roles; the residents where Masane and Rihoko live, though never getting much time individually, are responsible for the 'family atmosphere' always being in the air during the more relaxing periods, for example.

:: Art / Animation + Sound:: 8.5/10

The first thing that made me think, 'Wow, Witchblade might not be so horrible, despite the title and fan-service!' was its opening. I watched/listened to the opening by chance, and as soon as I heard the fast-paced, exciting beat and saw the visuals that accompanied the music, which included a close-up of Masane's eye and a tear coming out of it, I just knew I had to watch it. The first opening is THAT good--even the 'GIVE ME YOUR XTC!!!' lyrics going with the show itself. Gonzo went on to regret changing it halfway through since they replaced the far less impressive second opening with the first for the final episode.

In terms of the overall art and animation, the best word to use when describing it is consistent. Why? Because Gonzo are known for running out of budget and forgetting to animate towards the end. That wasn't the case with Witchblade, though, since the final episode featured fluid animation; Gonzo not being reduced to showing movement through lines on the screen and actually showing the characters running. Aside from a few instances of laziness where there wasn't animation and a few stills were linked, it was great to watch. Even Japan's obsession with breast jiggling got attention throughout! And, though I can't say Masane's HUGE, could-suffocate-with-ease breasts appealed to me personally, overall the art did look pleasing.

As for the soundtrack, I have to say: it's excellent. One track that stands out is one used for action quite frequently; a track with an eerie edge and... a woman breathing in an 'erotic' manner in the background - the track having an action-oriented beat. I was ALWAYS pumped for the action - my attention focused - simply because of the music. Towards the end, I recall drums starting beating after what had been a nice 'family life' sort of episode, and I just knew some sweet action would be coming my way. If a soundtrack is good enough, it can make something great into something even greater, and that's the case with Witchblade.

:: Overall :: 9/10

Witchblade has its flaws: the story isn't anything special, Gonzo appeared to run out of ideas at the death and just ended it, and the near enough naked girl-on-girl battles might be off-putting for some. However, the good by far outweighs the bad, and the characterization is at such a level that, if you're anything like me, you won't give a toss. Once the introduction was over and time had been given for attachment to the characters to form, I was too engrossed in their struggles to concern myself with negative thoughts about a robotic monster with the head of a bug and the like.

To sum it all up: If you go into Witchblade expecting nothing, you might just get everything in return. It's always rewarding to find a gem, and in my eyes Witchblade is a gem that deserves to have more people look at it. Do yourself a favour and watch it!

Witchblade: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] Specifications

The fan-service adventure Witchblade (2006) is another trans-Pacific hybrid: a Japanese TV series based on an American comic. Masane Amaha and her obnoxiously precocious daughter Rihoko were discovered amid the ruins after an earthquake devastated 22nd century Japan. During the disaster, she somehow acquired the sentient ultimate weapon, the Witchblade. When Masane comes near an X-Con, a prototype cyborg made by Douji Industries from human cadavers, the Witchblade causes her to morph into a fighting fiend--in an outfit Pamela Anderson might wear in a sequel to The Dark Knight. The Witchblade supposedly endows the wielder with "insatiable lust and unthinkable power," but Masane gets her exposed derrière kicked by women using Cloneblades, imitation Witchblades the Douji Group also created. Maria, the most powerful Cloneblader, emerges as a potential rival to Masane. When she decides to seize control of Douji Industries, the audience is left to wonder how and why she went from an undisciplined, infantile killer to a disciplined, mature killer. The inevitable duel between Masane and Maria atop Tokyo Tower suggests High Noon with implants. Masane triumphs over Maria and the power of the Witchblade in a finale that's simultaneously gory and mawkish. Although the convoluted plot stumbles along like Masane after a binge, Witchblade will delight adolescent boys who want to watch fights between overendowed, under-dressed babes. In an accompanying interview, character designer/executive animation director Makoto Uno says, "We added a devilish element to the physical beauty of women and animated them with particular attention to the breasts and butt." No kidding. (Rated TV MA, suitable for ages 16 and older: violence, violence against women, grotesque imagery, risqué humor, alcohol and tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

How to manipulate and control the media plays an important role when it comes to the financial situation of the country. Have you ever noticed how we all we think we see, tend? But if you read the latest news on CNN think it is unreliable, would you switch on your favorite NBC news channels such as news and see the same there.

Alsowhen you released the insured may feel that being news is true and genuine, in reality, this case never been the case. The media is one of the most important aspects of entertainment that has been used to manipulate the minds of the way we feel. Although you might think "what on earth is this guy go," is the sad truth that, without notice, we all fall in a carefully predetermined plan, ensure all forms of financial security andof its distribution is controlled.

Now you can sit in your living room and say, reading this "What a nonsense." I am not using this article as a means of addressing my point of view on the current economic crisis, but try to address the main agenda a wider audience so that they can see and react accordingly. It cost me a few good years of my life to see on the front page every day. Since then, economic crisis or no crisis, I have never seen my self in noForm of financial difficulty.

Now, no assumptions or statements are always welcome, if they have no evidence to have to secure it. There is so much evidence out here in the world shows clearly that everything is checked against bank and investors without noticing us at all. If you're a little bit of time by the amount of daily activity that passes under our nose, without looking to be aware of, so we will see why all the long hours of work that you no longer use any time in Put, how toSearch is still some way to make ends meat.

Most if not all great news channel, ABC will be checked all these big banks and investment firms. News channels like CNN, CBS etc are known to be owned and controlled 85% by leading banks, Wall Street can be found on that. I do not think it's rocket science to figure out that if the majority in these news channels Street banks controls actors from the wall, I wonder whose going to say. Not difficultanswer is that? It may be the few news channels but one fly under the radar that there can always start to go the truth, believe them.

The company and the system we now live has us believe that the bigger the better. In this case, even if a small news agency hours are asked to believe that the banks of America money were "stealing" from our hard work, I do not think turning a naked eye would be so difficult.

The Book of Job is very interesting for me. Especially in the first chapter in verse 12 it says The Lord said to Satan: Well, then all he has is in your hands, but do the people do not even lay a finger. So what it means, but the man himself do not lay a finger. This book tells us clearly that job in pain and wounds on his body. So again, what it means, but the man himself, a layman not a finger. Now most of us know that put a finger on anyoneto touch her. Well, that says that the dictionary does put to rest, cause to lie, arrange, align, design, etc. He also says that consume touch with a finger against the contact, make use of influence, communication, contact, comments , etc posed. From reading the book of Job, Satan has not put a finger on the man himself. Job has undergone through testing and was a man of integrity. Look at what Job said after receiving the message about the death of his love one, he says 1:20 in the Book of Jobit says on this, lost job and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: Naked I came from my womb mothers, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away, can the name of the Lord be praised. Job really worship the Lord. He fully understood that the Lord is responsible for everything and everyone. In particular, Job never lost his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

In the book of James speaks of Job in the fifthChapter for patience in suffering. He says in chapter 5:11 As you know, we have considered blessed, those who endured the. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. Yes the Lord is full of compassion and mercy, just think of the sun every morning, and the moon comes every night, the seas never overflow and drown us, it always stays on its border. The world is full of his grace, compassion and mercy. ItIt also says in the book of James in chapter 1:12 Blessed is the man who remains in the testing, since when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised those who love him. Job was accused by Satan, Satan, but no matter what he had done to avert job for the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Book of Matthew tells us in chapter 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven is her. Blessed are you when people insultIt pursues all manner of evil and wrong to speak against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for in the same manner in which they were persecuted the prophets before you. So, if in the same way, the Victims of the prophets, and they follow us happy and just be happy and be still and know that the Lord Jesus Christ is God.

Look in the Book of 1 Peter 2:19 it says For it is commendable if a man wears under the pain of unjust suffering because heis conscious of God. It also tells us in the Book of 1st Peter 3:14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you're blessed. Do not fear what they fear, not afraid. One might ask what they fear? Now we know from the Book of Romans 8:06, what their minds think. He says that the mind of sinful man is death, but the mind is controlled by the Spirit of life and peace, the sinful mind is hostile to God, it shall not be subject to divine law, nor can do it. Those controlled by thesinful nature can not please God. I pray that we all repent our sins and come under the control of the Holy Spirit that is life and peace.

Everything and everyone belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ, and he makes the decisions about our lives. Yes, we pray and ask the Lord for help, things, etc. But it is always the master decision. Look at the Book of Job is again in chapter 41:10, the Lord speaks to Job about Leviathan creature. He says no one is hard enough to wake him.Who then is able to stand against me? Who has to pay a claim against me that I? Everything under heaven belongs to me.

Finally, let's just think for a moment. The Lord said, but do to humans can not even lay a finger, and that is exactly what happened. Now we know that not align job or rest, with Satan, Satan does not cause him to lie. Satan also contact does not consume that influence job in any way shape and fashion. He keeps his integrity and was not to touch. I pray that we all do notTouch of Satan. And remember Satan Cannot Touch of Lords children.

Remember to read your Bible!

Love Always,
Your sister in Christ,
Mella Davis

Sleepy Hollow Review

Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci star in Tim Burton's macabre version of Washington Irving's very short story "The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow." Let me say upfront, that I never have, and don't intend to, read the source material, as it looks boring. The script considerably expands on Irving's characters and moody atmosphere. The movie is very well directed by the Master Of Idiosyncrasy, Tim Burton (see "Edward Scissorhands," a bittersweet love story, or
"Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street," a stylish and operatic "Kill Bill" set in Victorian England). The performances in this movie are first-rate, from Johnny Depp & Christina Ricci right down to the child actor who plays Young Masbath. I love the tender moments in the film (when Katrina holds Young Masbath in her arms and when she holds Ichabod in her arms); those are my favourite bits. What else can I say? I'm very sentimental. The suspense is chilling, and the ending will shock you. When you think, you know what will happen next, think again. Very complex and intriguing gem of a film. I won't say more, lest I give away the plot. "Heads Will Roll."

The special features are quite interesting, beginning with a Making of featurette, and exclusive cast and crew interviews, which are very thorough. However, I think Christopher Lee and Martin Landau should have also been interviewed, as their roles were very small, but significant to the plot of the movie. Also, I'm somewhat disappointed that some scenes in the trailer (and lines of dialogue heard in the Making of featurette) were not in the movie or included as deleted scenes on the DVD.

I highly recommend the film. It's worth repeated viewings to fully understand the complex (but well defined) plot. It deserved the R rating, for graphic horror violence and gore, and a scene of sexuality.

Sleepy Hollow Feature

Sleepy Hollow Overview

Master storyteller Tim Burton (Batman, Edward Scissorhands) weaves an eerie, enchanting version of the classic tale of horror. Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean 1 & 2) is Ichabod Crane, an eccentric investigator determined to stop the Headless Horseman. Christina Ricci (Monster) is Katrina Van Tassel, the beautiful and mysterious girl with secret ties to the supernatural terror.

Sleepy Hollow Specifications

The films of Tim Burton shine through the muck like a jack-o-lantern on a foggy October night. After such successes as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands, it should come as no surprise that Sleepy Hollow is a dazzling film, a delicious reworking of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Dark and moody, the film is a thrilling ride back to the turn of the 19th century. Johnny Depp stars as Ichabod Crane, a seemingly hapless constable from New York City who is sent to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to solve the mystery of the decapitations that are plaguing the town. Crane is a bumbling sort, with a tremendous faith in science over mysticism, and he comes up against town secrets, bewitching women, and a number of bodies missing heads. Christina Ricci, as beautiful as ever, is Katrina Van Tassel, the offbeat love interest who alternately charms and frightens Crane.

The film, while occasionally gory (as one should expect from a movie about a headless horseman), is not terribly frightening, although it is suspenseful. Both Depp and Ricci are convincing, and the art direction and production values give the village its harsh feel. Toward the end, once the secrets are revealed, the film does slow down; however, this stylistic horror film provides many tricks and even more treats. --Jenny Brown

The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition) Review

I am a huge lifetime fan of this genre. Tolkien was a tremendously gifted author and the LOTR series of books has had a huge impact worldwide from the time it was first released. I was excited when I heard that the series was going to be made into a movie. However, as happens so often when trying to take a story of this magnitude and put it on the silver screen, I was afraid that the movie would fall short of the expectation. I'm happy to say the movie exceeded the expectation. And while some would say the original was too long, all I could say was give me more. The extended versions fulfill that request. And, while I was disappointed that the movie did not include the return to the Shire at the end, it is still one of the greatest movies of all time. As stated previously, if you are a fan of LOTR, the extended additions are a must-buy.

The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition) Feature

The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition) Overview

Not seen in theaters, this unique version of the epic adventure features over 30 minutes of new and extended scenes integrated into the film by the director.

The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition) Specifications

In every aspect, the extended-edition DVD of Peter Jackson's epic fantasy The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring blows away the theatrical-version DVD. No one who cares at all about the film should ever need to watch the original version again. Well, maybe the impatient and the squeamish will still prefer the theatrical version, because the extended edition makes a long film 30 minutes longer and there's a bit more violence (though both versions are rated PG-13). But the changes--sometimes whole scenes, sometimes merely a few seconds--make for a richer film. There's more of the spirit of J.R.R. Tolkien, embodied in more songs and a longer opening focusing on Hobbiton. There's more character development, and more background into what is to come in the two subsequent films, such as Galadriel's gifts to the Fellowship and Aragorn's burden of lineage. And some additions make more sense to the plot, or are merely worth seeing, such as the wood elves leaving Middle-earth or the view of Caras Galadhon (but sorry, there's still no Tom Bombadil). Extremely useful are the chapter menus that indicate which scenes are new or extended.

Of the four commentary tracks, the ones with the greatest general appeal are the one by Jackson and cowriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, and the one by 10 cast members, but the more technically oriented commentaries by the creative and production staff are also worth hearing. The bonus features (encompassing two complete DVDs) are far superior to the largely promotional materials included on the theatrical release, delving into such matters as script development, casting, and visual effects. The only drawback is that the film is now spread over two discs, with a somewhat abrupt break following the council at Rivendell, due to the storage capacity required for the longer running time, the added DTS ES 6.1 audio, and the commentary tracks. But that's a minor inconvenience. Whether in this four-disc set or in the collector's gift set (which adds Argonath bookends and a DVD of National Geographic Beyond the Movie: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring), the extended-edition DVD is the Fellowship DVD to rule them all. --David Horiuchi

It is a known fact that to overcome the most common cause of stress for solo entrepreneurs. Add in a family, children and work from home and the stress only compounds. I suffered to prevail under paralysis. There are days that I still do, but I have seven opportunities that I have to fight them. They actually work. The key is to consistently implement it. So the next time you fight overwhelming, try the following ideas.
Create a relaxed morning routine. Not only Billsthe bed and get started. It is best to facilitate it. Now I'm not saying lounge around until noon. I want you to exercise, have breakfast, read something inspiring, to meditate, what you feel before you dare to turn the computer well.
Turn off your e-mail if you have large projects. Once you are already planning to get anything achieved, do yourself a favor and turn your e-mail in-box. I know how tempting it is to check for new messages. That will not helpStay focused.
Turn the ring tone from your cell phone during working hours. It is perfectly acceptable to return your phone calls set business hours or during a certain time of day. After all, you're running a business. Work must be done first, and those who need something from you, or simply want to just talk, such as family and friends, I can wait.
Take some of your work and get out of the house. This is definitely of help with your energy. Ihave found that staring can be a bit draining on a computer screen all day. So go to your local coffee shop, diner or wherever suitable and would absorb the presence of other people. It is a surefire way to fuel your creativity.
Set a timer for the internet or e-mail time. If you are not aware of a limit set on your time surfing the Web, it can literally waste hours of your day. This is not productive, so be strict with.
Cancel all your subscriptionsnot read. This will eliminate e-mail in-box a crazy and will do free up some extra time you could with a little more constructive. Of course, all these newsletters and such that you find useful.
Do not create computer time zone. It is extremely important that you have limits to your business. You do not have to work 24 hours a day, have seven days a week. Take your time when your computer is turned off and a little fun with your family, for yourself or withFriends. The good news is, the work is not universal and it is waiting for you tomorrow.

Sesame Street - The Best of Elmo Review

We bought the Best of Elmo DVD for our 14 month old son. He really isn't a TV watcher...so for his attention span...this video keeps him entertained. The way that the video pieces together some of the best elmo segments using the Monster Art Show is excellent and also teaches a good lesson. We honestly bought the DVD for the "Elmo's song" segment at the very end. Love this DVD. It is about 30 minutes which is plenty long for our little guy...so it's just right for us.

Sesame Street - The Best of Elmo Specifications

The Sesame Street character has fun singing some catchy new songs (you and your toddler just might, too), explaining the difference between light and heavy, having a laugh over pictures and numbers, and sharing the screen with a good-natured Whoopi Goldberg and Julia Roberts. Of the various Elmo videos, this one really does have the choicest material and stands up to repeat viewings--a big plus with little ones. --Tom Keogh
