The Sopranos - The Complete Series Review
This is a statement about the product packaging. There's enough written about the series, here. This is absolutely the most outstanding DVD set I've ever seen. I must weight five pounds. The box is massively heavy; it is packaged tight, wrapped in multiple layers of protection; the DVDs are in what looks similar to a photo album of very heavy, thick cardboard with a nice cover. The DVDs are nicely positioned on each page in tight pockets. Super, super job, people.
It sure beats the hell out of the garbage I got when I bought the Northern Exposure series.
10 Stars on the whole deal, the series and the DVD product! Thank you for doing the job to perfection! Finally, a studio that takes great pride in their work!

The Express Review
As a sports nut I should be ashamed there were so many facts about Ernie Davis I knew nothing about. Yes, I knew he was the first African-American to win the Heisman--and he won it when the civil rights issue was at its zenith. And yes, I knew he died tragically young, but had no idea leukemia claimed him at age 23, before he even got to play a down in the NFL. And I did not know the Cleveland Browns, who drafted him to play alongside fellow Syracuse legend Jim Brown, retired his jersey number. But I know all of this now, thanks to watching THE EXPRESS, a tribute to Ernie Davis and his collegiate career. Sure, it's a little sappy and reeks of melodramatic cliches at times, but overall this is a very moving story about a young man of strong moral fiber fighting not only tacklers on the field, but a society determined to keep him at second class status.
THE EXPRESS features a superb cast, including Rob Brown in the lead role. Brown plays the young Syracuse superstar with calm demeanor and resolute determination; other actors, given the racial tensions of the setting, might have been tempted to go over the top, but Brown keeps the lid on. I thoroughly enjoyed Dennis Quaid as gruff head coach Ben Schwartzwalder--a man who must go on a personal journey of his own, as he discovers he's not as open and tolerant as he originally believes. And I really liked Darrin Dewitt Henson playing the proud, yet always defiant, Jim Brown. The football scenes--particularly the 1960 Cotton Bowl against an angry Texas team--are gritty and realistic; sports fans will enjoy the action, while everyone else will enjoy the humanity THE EXPRESS so aptly depicts.

Based on the real-life story of college football hero Ernie Davis, The Express will remind some moviegoers of the heart-tugging Brian's Song. Ernie Davis was a star athlete at Syracuse University and the first African American to win the Heisman Trophy. Unlike other winners of that era, he wasn't allowed to attend his banquet dinner because the venue didn't serve blacks. He died of leukemia at the age of 23 in 1963. That element of his story is well known to football fans. What the filmmakers concentrate on in The Express isn't just Davis' athletic prowess, but the relationship he had with his coach Ben Schwartzwalder (Dennis Quaid). Rob Brown (Stop-Loss, Coach Carter) lends both gravity and charm to the role of Davis. He plays Davis as a strong willed and moral young man who refuses to let racism and discrimination dominate his life. He joins a Jewish fraternity, gets along with his predominantly white teammates and shows respect for his family and coach. The film is wise not to present Schwartzwalder as wholly color blind. Though not overtly racist, he makes a few references that would not be acceptable in modern-day society. Overall though, the coach doesn't care what color his players are, as long as they share the common goal of winning. Quaid is well cast in the role, adding just the right amount of gruff mannerisms without becoming a caricature. Brown has the difficult task of adding suspense to a character where most of the audience already knows his fate. Still, he manages to keep moviegoers on their toes--hoping for a miracle that we know will never come. --Jae-Ha Kim

I never gave much thought to the female protagonists in Disney animated movies until I had children. Since then, it's hard to believe it took THIS LONG for Disney to develop a strong, admirable female lead for their animation franchise. When our family first watched this film, I thought it was a little cheesy, but, by the second viewing, really loved the film. The writers don't dumb things down for their audience, which I appreciate (my girls know what "elucidate" means because of this movie!) and the overall theme is really wonderful for girls of any age, but especially preschoolers. Tinker Bell is hardworking, creative, strong-willed, and a true inventor. There's a brief lovey moment with a boy fairy, Terrance, but this is a girl-centric Disney movie with NO ROMANCE! Whether you loved baseball or not, the summer of '61 was dominated by Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, and Billy Crystal has perfectly captured the 'feel' of that unforgettable, magical season in "61*". When 'M & M' began their assault on Babe Ruth's 'unbreakable' record of 60 home runs in a single season, those who knew and loved the Babe were angered that this 'Holy Grail' was a target, and, as Crystal illustrates, Ruth's friend, Baseball Commissioiner Ford Frick, laid down restrictive rules to help keep Ruth's record intact (the dreaded asterix, if the record wasn't broken in 154 games), making the competition more than simply breaking the record, but a race against the clock, as well.
With two brilliant performances by actors Thomas Jane and Barry Pepper (who look astonishingly close to Mantle and Maris), the film transcends the sport, becoming a tale of friendship, of an insane loss of privacy and personal dignity, and of two very different, remarkable men. Mantle is universally loved (and expected to win the race), a veteran Yankee of epic talent and overwhelming charm, whose wild boozing and womanizing is 'sanitized' by an adoring press. Maris, on the other hand, is a quiet, focused professional, a family man whose only vice is cigarettes, and, in only his second year with the Yankees, is considered an outsider and usurper to Mantle's 'glory' (having won the MVP award, the year before). As he has little to say to the press, they make a spectacle of him, in a season-long vendetta that fans the flames of hatred that the city already feels towards him. For Maris, the impact is staggering, added to the pressure of the home run race. Welts appear on his body and he starts losing handfuls of hair, he receives daily hate mail, and even his family is threatened. But Maris' biggest ally is Mantle, who truly likes him, admires his devotion to his family and the game, and realizes his own failing body may not allow him the triumph his fans expect.
It is a beautiful story, riveting despite the fact that the outcome is known, before the film even begins.
I highly recommend the 'Making of' documentary, as well as the film. Did you know Thomas Jane had never played any baseball, before he made the film? And Crystal's decision to include a cameo by Mantle's tiny grandson, watching the 'grandpa' he'll never know hit a home hun, is sheer magic!
"61*" is simply a fabulous film, at a really fabulous price. Even if you don't like baseball, I think you'll love this film!

Crystal and first-time writer Hank Steinberg keep the pace moving quickly between the field, the locker room, the press box, and the home front. It is not as bad as many reviewers claim. Actually, I give this movie 3,5.
This is the story of a Cuban coffee farmer, Luis (Antonio Banderas) who asks to be brought from the USA, a woman so he can marry and have children. As he works too much, he has no time for knowing a woman the usual way. He becomes astonished when at the port, he looks at his future wife, a very beautiful woman called Julia (Angelina Jolie). The actors have a real chemistry, it can be seen whenever they look at each other and in the famous sensual scenes. Julia has a mysterious past and constant nightmares trouble her. The story becomes a bit confused as a letter is exchanged between Julia and her supposed sister. Then, we have the appearance of a weird detective, Walter Downs (Thomas Jane) and the subsequent Julia's disappearance. From that point on, Luis travels to Havana searching for his wife and his life turns upside down... I didn't like Angelina Jolie's character very much, her betrayal,even though you will see, her past follows her to the present and she cannot get rid of it. But we still have some surprises inside the top hat... Summing up, the movie is worth seeing, at least for the very beautiful couple, Banderas and Jolie.

The movie asserts that love is truly blind, but absurd twists of plot make Luis appear more stupid than passionate. The Real Ghostbusters: Complete Collection Review
I've owned this Real Ghostbusters set now since November 2008 and watched all 25 discs in the spring of 2009. I would like to preface my review by saying that I am a huge 80s cartoon collector and this set is by far the nicest in its overall design that I own. The set is a compact collection and fits ever so nicely on a bookshelf - it's about five regular dvd cases wide. If you own the Shout! Factory G.I. Joe and Transformers Complete Sets it is nothing near the size of those beasts. Some may actually look at the RGB set and exclaim how small it is. As soon as I opened it in November 2008 I know I did, because back then I had paid over a 0 for it - "I paid 0 for this little thing!" At first glance it didn't seem worth the coin but as I started to view the collection, and upon finishing it in May of 2009, I can tell you it was worth every penny. And now here you can get it for 3, free shipping, and no tax in some states! This price almost temps me to buy another to keep sealed and have place in a bank deposit!
What you get:
The set includes all 147 episodes of The Real Ghostbusters (which include all episodes from Slimer! And The Real Ghostbusters) on 24 dvds - 5 dvds each in cases 1-4 and 4 dvds in case 5 and then there is the bonus 25th dvd in a cardboard cd-type sleeve w/ artwork. Each "case" is a very nice steelbook case with clear dvd tray inserts so you can see the artwork on the inner-back-side of the steelbook. Steelbooks are very strong and I believe are made from some sort of aluminum but with plastic dvd tray inserts. The disc art is basically the same for each case - the four Ghostbusters on the first 4 dvds per case and then Slimer or Janine (or both) on the 5th dvd, and this is repeated but with different background colors for each case.
The episodes are supposed to be restored and uncut. I've seen nothing to dispute the latter, but the former is suspect. These Real Ghostbusters episodes, picture-wise, are some of the worst I own, except maybe Transformers. Each episode has a lot of snap, crackle and pop, grain and some times the colors are wonky. If you've ever watched BCI's He-Man or Shout's GI Joe set and are expecting that type of picture....I'm sorry. But, truly, I don't mind. The look really brings you back to the 80s and gives off that 80s feel. And just to throw this out - I run my cartoons via a 360, over HDMI, into a Samsung 46" 1080p LCD - this may factor into what I'm seeing. I guess I just feel that Time-LIFE was misleading when they marketed the set as "restored". However, maybe they looked much worse and they were truly restored. Also, some of the episodes have audio that either runs slightly too fast or slightly too slow and this may drive some fans nuts. And I didn't find one episode that had glitches either.
MISC:
Over 12 hours of bonus features are peppered throughout the set but the actual bonus disc is a treat. The bonus dvd has the original promotional pilot for The Real Ghostbusters - this thing is about 4-5 minutes long and was used to sell the show in a boardroom. I believe the disc has all of the interviews (found throughout the set) uncut here as well - J. Michael Straczynski (creator - Babylon 5) is probably the most well known and most entertaining to watch.
In the set there are 21 on-camera commentary tracks with producers, voice actors, writers, animators and production personnel, 5 exclusive documentaries, 86 episode introductions (that are down-right goofy - Straczynski's are the best though), and the set comes with, depending on how you count pages, a 48-page booklet that includes episode synopses, trivia and art for every episode. There is some minor fluff too but it's not a worth mention.
Pros:
You get every episode of The Real Ghostbusters and Slimer! And The Real Ghostbusters, uncut, in one sturdy, compact box-set that takes up little room in your dvd collection but adds great value. The bonus material is more than a fan could ever want and then some, and can be downright overwhelming at times, especially if you watched the video commentary too.
Cons:
If I were Time-LIFE, and if money and time were not a factor, I would have really tried to have the episodes cleaned up better (has anyone seen the Shout! Factory G.I. Joe Complete Set...WOW!), and have the audio correct on those episodes that have an audio-speed issue. The other thing I would change is the disc's cover art. I know why the disc art is the way it is, because Time-LIFE wants to sell each volume (case) individually, but I think it would have been awesome for the complete set if there was special disc art with a prominent/sub character having their own disc. Here's my list - a Peter Venkman disc, Egon Spengler disc, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, Janine Melnitz, Louis Tully, Slimer, Walter Peck, Stay Puft, Sandman, Samhain, Cathulhu, Boogieman, Grundel, Boogaloo, Ghostmaster, Ghash (Mr. Ugly), Furnace Monster, Precious, Wat, Toy Ghost, Killerwatt, Morganan, Professor Dweeb and the bonus disc would just have the logo.
Overall, this is a must have for Real Ghostbusters fans. Period.

Finding Neverland (Widescreen Edition) Review
I bought this dvd a couple of months ago, but didn't watch it until last weekend, twice. I waited so long to watch it because I thought this movie was all computer generated graphics and star dust, a movie best experienced with one's brain running at idle. Was I wrong.
This movie is engaging, enchanting, and funny. You will laugh and cry with the characters as their lives unfold. The production is set in 1903 England and is said to be based on real events.
The movie is about the goings-on in the life of the playwriter, James Barrie when he wrote "Peter Pan". A man who is about 30 going on 13, who would rather clown-it-up at the formal dinner table with his new pre-pubescent friends than engage his socialite wife and her new social contact.
All the female costars ooze both beauty and talent. The children can act beyond their years. I'm just going to say this is a must see for everyone from 5 on up.

Much credit is due to the actors: Johnny Depp applies his genius for sly whimsy in his portrayal of playwright J. M. The relationship between Barrie and the Llewelyn Davies family sparks both an imagined world and a quiet rebellion against the stuffy forces of respectability, given physical form by Barrie's resentful wife (Radha Mitchell, High Art) and Sylvia's mother (Julie Christie, McCabe and Mrs. Miller). This gentle silliness could have turned to treacle, but Depp and Winslet--along with newcomer Freddie Highmore as one of the boys--keep their feet on the earth while their eyes gaze into their dreams. The classic Snow White looks better than ever on this BluRay DVD. It's obvious that Disney spent a lot of time and money turning this classic into a high-def film. But they did not re-do any artwork. It has the look and feel of the original, just sharper than I've ever seen it.
This package is an excellent value as it comes with 3 DVDs: Two BluRay (one with the video and the other with extras) and one standard DVD. I really appreciate it when they add the standard DVD so I'm not tied to a high-def player. I can throw the original in an old DVD player or a computer, and even the standard DVD looks better than ever.
Disney would have been justified (and probably would have sold plenty) at a standard BluRay DVD price, but as of the time of this posting, pricing was much lower than most new release BluRay discs, plus they threw in the bonus disc and the standard DVD.
If this is any indication of how Disney will roll out all of their classic cartoons into High Def, I'm excited.

1001 Rabbit Tales
If Bugs Bunny were to direct his signature inquiry--"What's up, doc?"--toward the modern-day Warner Bros. creative team, he wouldn't be far off. For 1001 Rabbit Tales, they've doctored up a batch of classic cartoons featuring the carrot muncher and his bumbling comrades and bundled them, near seamlessly, into a feature-length film. Here's the premise: Bugs and Daffy, both book salesmen, are competing to sell the most copies of a kids' book. Instead of burrowing a beeline to his sales territory (he should have made a left at Albuquerque), Bugs ends up in the castle of Yosemite Sam, here a harem-leading honcho. Sam's pain-in-the-spurs son, Prince Abalaba, needs somebody to read him stories; Bugs, who'd sooner take the job than suffer the alternative, that involving being boiled in oil, signs on. Each rabbit-read narrative replaces a sedate story with a Loony Tunes favorite: In "Jack and the Beanstalk," a canary-keeping giant bellows "Fee, fi, fo, fat, I tawt I taw a puddy tat"; the witch in "Hansel and Gretel" develops a hankering for rabbit stew; "Goldilocks" goes feline as Sylvester swaps his porridge for suffering succotash on behalf of his bratty son. In the end, the varmint finds a way to vamoose, but, being a generous sort of bunny, he doesn't keep the address from his commission-hungry coworker. In the genre of a psychological drama/mystery, every detail of this movie is executed with brilliance and perfection. You're instantly drawn into the world of John Nash, a mathematical genius who is severely handicapped in other ways. You experience all the drama, pain and triumphs as he does in his awkward struggle through college, career, family and social life. There are a couple of great twists here. All acting was great. The casting of Christopher Plummer was very clever - if you've seen it, you know what I mean! It's real gem that thrills, warms and satisfies.

Many of us have enough to share with other people. Many people are in need, and we must be able to help them. The Lord Jesus is not happy when people come to us for their needs met and we continued with some excuse. The Lord calls us to lay down our lives for others.
An example might be that a person in the church comes to us with a bill that theycan not afford to pay for everything. We would have one, without first having dinner with our friends for a week, so that we can contribute to the cost of the person who has a hard time to go under.
In my ministry, many people write to me and ask when they are able to have to work, and the financial needs they fulfill. They sound like they are in a church where people no longer with the bills that will come to help
We live in hard times. So many people lose jobs and have a hard timeTime between two jobs and in emergency situations. The Church must have a reformation, and divided back to the beginning of the church, in all, and no one had a defect.
The prosperity doctrine plays an important role to blame. So many people can be promised, they are rich and they do not give money. The world, as well as the Christian world is getting colder and the love of many shall wax cold. It is as it was predicted, as are people in the church and remain stubbornlynot open his hands to the poor.
